A member of the pea family, the broom plant was imported from Europe. Broom plants are found in perennial gardens mainly along the east and west coasts. Brooms are 4 to 5 feet tall erect shrubs with alternate leaves. The flowers are arranged in heads and are generally yellow or white. Broom plants got their name from the days they were made into brooms.
